AmCham CARES 2018 Weekly Recipient Highlight: Humanitarian Relief



Baxter is dedicated to addressing fundamental healthcare needs of patients worldwide, and therefore bring their CSR work to life through their mission of “Save and Sustain Lives.” In the past year, Baxter Singapore’s employees volunteered nearly 1000 hours, working closely with 4 charities to help the underserved in the community. The team participated in nearly 15 events including providing meals to the needy and helping renovate a home in the community.







Boeing has been innovating to meet the needs of an ever-changing, fast-paced, worldwide environment for over 100 years. Boeing employees in Singapore have been involved in a number of community engagement activities such as the Community Chest Heartstrings Walk, SIA Engineering Company FunRun@Zoo charity event and Project HomeWork, where they partnered with Habitat for Humanity Singapore. Boeing has globally invested US$163 million to help build better communities and engaged with almost 12,000 community partners.






In 2017, Caterpillar‘s corporate social responsibility group in Singapore incorporated more elements of employee engagement through a Shoe Donation Drive and Food Bundling initiative. Caterpillar’s Shoe Donation Drive introduced an inter-facility competition across four facilities in Singapore over 4 weeks, and by the end of the event, Caterpillar had collected, cleaned, and donated 1,300 pairs of covered-toe shoes for the poor worldwide. The Food Bundling initiative allowed Caterpillar employees to pack a total of 700 food bundles to deliver door-to-door to low income families in Singapore.






Last year, CenturyLink Asia Pacific embarked on at least three charity initiatives led by volunteers from various teams: Knitting for the Children in Mindat Village (northern Myanmar), Frost the Trail Charity Run, and Donation Drive to support the Andrew Youth Development Centre, a home for displaced children. Myanmar, despite being in the tropics, faces very harsh winter conditions. As part of these initiatives, CenturyLink’s employees delivered over 60 scarfs and 60 beanies for the children of Mindat Village, bringing warmth not only to them physically but to their hearts too.







Molex Singapore’s CSR program focuses on aiding Singapore’s bottom 10% income group to bring a positive impact to the community. In line with this, Molex adopted two rental blocks in Boon Lay Drive under the Adopt-a-Rental-Block Scheme by Southwest Community Development Council. Partnerships with other external community service agencies helps Molex address the “poverty cycle” affecting the residents in the key four areas of environment, parenting, transport, and literacy. Over the past years they have run programs such as food distribution, children literacy workshops, and home cleaning.







In communities all over the world, Moody‘s enriches people’s lives with their time, talent, and resources. Through their employee engagement programs and new product innovations, they invite global business units to participate in a team-based service activity during the workday that benefits the local community. By combining community service with internal team building, Moody employees strengthen colleague relationships while positively impacting nonprofit partners. In Singapore, eight volunteer programs were completed, including an innovation workshop, waterways cleaning session, and multiple community outreach activities.






In Singapore, Pfizer has a well-established and highly popular employee volunteer program where Pfizer employees volunteer their personal time in supporting various charities in the country. Pfizer coordinates the volunteer efforts and encourages employees to participate in such meaningful activities to play a part in giving back to society, especially providing support to those in need. Pfizer Singapore is proud of all its employee volunteers for their passion and enthusiasm towards contributing to society by helping the less privileged.







Travelport had established Travelport Cares to provide structure, focus, and support for employees to pledge their support for community well-being. Individuals are given time off to carry out approved CSR work, and Travelport matches any fund-raising activities with a top-up. Some of the organizations they have supported over the past year include HImmapaan Foundation in Thailand, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Jodie O’Shea Orphanage in Bali, and Sheng Kung Hui St. Christopher’s Home in Hong Kong.






In Singapore, UPS employees focused on UPS’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. During Global Volunteer Month, UPS’s annual celebration of volunteerism, UPSers dedicated time, skills, and efforts to make a difference in the communities where they live and do business. These ranged from activities aimed at ending hunger, which include packing and delivering dry rations and preparing food for underprivileged individuals.







The Visa Foundation was formed in 2017 to support Visa‘s efforts in supporting broader community needs, financial literacy and inclusion, as well as humanitarian response in times of crisis. In Singapore, Visa launched an Employee-Directed Charitable Grant in 2014, where employees could submit proposals to nominate their charities of choice to receive US$10,000 charitable grants as well as support from Visa’s employee volunteers. Visa Singapore also launched an initiative called Project 8 — a pledge system for employees to pledge at least 8 hours of independent volunteering a year, which has since been adopted as a 16-hour Volunteering Time Off policy by Visa globally.
