Peter Allen leads Agoda Outside, the outreach and public affairs department of Agoda.com. Agoda is the Asia-based subsidiary of the Priceline Group, the world’s leader in online travel. Peter’s career has spanned academia and business, focusing on building organizations, developing people, and increasing knowledge in both business and academic fields.
Academia: In the humanities, Peter has earned from Haverford College (B.A.), from the Université de Poitiers (D.E.A.), and from the University of Chicago (A.M., Ph.D.). He has taught on the faculties of Princeton University, Pomona College, and the University of Southern California. He has lectured at many universities and business schools and published widely, including books from the University of Pennsylvania Press and the University of Chicago Press. He is an adjunct faculty member at Nanyang Business School (the top-rated business school in Singapore) and is co-authoring a business case at Singapore Management University.
Business: Peter received an M.B.A. in strategic management and health care management from the Wharton School in 2000. At McKinsey & Company, in New York, Peter worked in consulting and knowledge management and taught strategy to McKinsey consultants worldwide. He then moved to Google, Inc., where he founded and directed Google University, providing innovative, cross-functional education to Google employees in leadership, management, personal growth, and business and professional skills. At Google, he also created the “G2G” peer teaching program and helped launch the “Search inside Yourself” mindfulness initiative. Peter has received numerous fellowships and awards, has also served as an advisor and board member to academic and non-profit organizations.
Current work: Peter has been living in Asia since 2010 and has been working at Agoda since 2012. He spent four years building and leading Agoda’s People team, and is now creating Agoda Outside, which focuses on ideas, research, exchanging information, philanthropy, and outreach. Major current goals include publishing (the website, https://outside.agoda.com ; monthly newsletters; white papers on topics of current interest; articles, including an article in the McKinsey Quarterly), building a network of tourism boards, government affairs contacts, legal experts, and academics; and finding opportunities for collaboration between Agoda and other organizations. He is co-chair of AmCham Singapore’s Government and Regional Affairs Committee.
