About the Panelists

Abhilash Murthy
Bus Uncle

Abhilash is an entrepreneur with a background in design-focused software engineering. He created the Bus Uncle chatbot as a hobby project, which has grown to become Singapore's most popular chatbot. His company is now helping enterprises and organisations build their own engaging chatbots and pioneering conversational advertising in Singapore through their current chatbots.

Vernon Turner
Executive Analyst

One of the great heavyweights of the analyst industry, Vernon serves as Ecosystm’s Executive Analyst, covering all manner of technology industry-wide trends and emerging markets. A frequent speaker, moderator, author and presenter for a number of leading media outlets, there are few who rival his knowledge in ICT and his strategic vision in digital transformation – particularly in the manufacturing, transportation, finance and banking communities.

Starting his career in client-side IT roles, Vernon entered the research world in 2000, joining IDC as Group Vice President. Through the course of his 18 year tenure with the firm, Vernon’s remit evolved from traditional ICT – including Networking, Servers, Storage, Virtualisation and Data Centres – to becoming IDC’s first Research Fellow, specialising in The Internet of Things (IoT). He was presented with IDC’s highest accolade in 2014, recognised for his passion, persistence and candid approach.

Beyond his work with Ecosystm, Vernon works with a number of venture capital firms as a technology subject matter expert. He also sits on the IoT World Forum steering committee and previously supported the governor for the State Of Illinois in developing a Smart State Initiative.

Vernon holds degrees in Computer Studies and Business Administration. In his free time, Vernon is a sports fan, having competed in track and field at international levels. He’s also an active charity runner, and recently completed his eighth consecutive marathon in a four year period.

Richard Koh
Chief Technology Officer
Microsoft Singapore

Richard Koh is the chief technology officer of Microsoft Singapore. In this role, he is responsible for engaging with key executive leaders across government, industry and academia; bringing in the macro technology landscape; and helping customers leverage technology innovations for their digital transformation. His focus areas include guiding technology policies, standards, legal and regulatory matters, as well as security, privacy and compliance decisions.

Always passionate about the promises that the Internet and cloud computing can bring, and with a keen eye on business strategies, product development and marketing, Richard’s professional experience spans the Asia and North America regions, as well as multiple functional areas including research & development, IT, product management, marketing, business development and sales operations.

Prior to joining Microsoft, he was the senior director for Emerging Businesses & Strategy under Group Enterprise at Singtel. There, he led a team of intrapreneurs, products managers, product marketers, architects, and engineers to catalyse new businesses, products and platforms in Cloud services, the Internet of Things, machine to machine, education and healthcare.

Earlier on in his career, Richard spearheaded Emerging Markets strategy for Microsoft Operations as the operations team unit lead based in Singapore. And in Redmond, Washington, he led product teams as director of technical product management in Microsoft’s Office, Servers & Tools, as well as telecommunication solutions businesses, which led him to be part of the founding product team for Microsoft’s flagship productivity suite – Office 365.

Richard also spent close to 12 years at Hewlett-Packard, with stints at the company in Singapore and in Cupertino/Palo Alto, California, where he gained wide experience in R&D, business development and marketing of emerging Internet/web-services and telecommunications technologies, as well as people and organisation management.

Richard graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science & Information Systems. Richard is married with two children. He loves to work with passionate people who wants to change the world for the better, and enjoys running, skiing/snowboarding, reading, indie movies and tinkering with tech gadgets.

Priya Mahajan
Head of Asia Pacific Public Policy & Regulatory Counsel

Priya is the Head of Asia Pacific Public Policy & Regulatory Counsel where she is responsible for strategic-level Regulatory and Policy advice regarding Verizon's operations in Asia Pacific. Priya has previously served as Chief Counsel for Verizon-India where she was responsible for providing guidance on legal , regulatory & policy matters pertaining to India operations.

Priya holds extensive experience in advising on Telecom, Media and Technology areas on a range of regulatory & policy matters such as
  converged networks, new age digital services models, outsourcing, Data Privacy laws, Telecommunication Services (Mobile, Access, International Long distance &  OSP Licensing issues, OTT/Platforms regulations. In her policy role, she closely works with the policy makers, regulators on market access, trade policy issues and monitors the public policy developments related to Internet, emerging Technology  & New age digital services.

She earlier held honorary position of V
ice President at the Association of Competitive Telecom Operators (ACTO), an industry advocacy body representing the interest of Global carriers in India. She is a founding member of the Society of Women Lawyers (SOWL), focused on continuing Legal education, improvements of laws relating to women, mentoring and professional platform for women lawyers in India. Priya is a qualified attorney, an Associate member of Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). She has also attended the Accelerated Management Programme (AMP) at ISB Hyderabad.

Malie Foo
Vice President, Mobile Developer Team

Malie Foo, Vice President of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC Bank) oversees a team of regional developers responsible for developing the Bank’s applications internally and externally, with Mobile as a core focus.

Malie strongly believes in innovation and strives to build a culture of innovation and constant change. He inspires his team to be passionate, challenge existing norms, design "out-of-the-box" solutions and prototype with new and emerging technologies to make banking seamless, faster and safer.

Malie has been recognised through various OCBC Bank accolades, winning the CEO Quality Award and CEO Innovation Award for successfully delivering innovative in-house developed solutions and market-first mobile apps for both customers and employees. He was also awarded the Chairman GEMS Award for consistently delivering superior and differentiated customer experience. 

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics (Hons) from National University of Singapore.
