About the Speakers

Jane Bocklage
Chargé d'Affaires
U.S. Mission to ASEAN


Jane Bocklage joined the U.S. Mission to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Jakarta as the Deputy Permanent Representative in July 2016.  Ms. Bocklage served as the Political Unit Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Vienna from 2013-2016.  She joined the U.S. Department of State in 2001 and previously served in Bolivia, Vietnam, Macedonia, and the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs in Washington, DC.  Prior to her diplomatic service, Ms. Bocklage worked as a Foreign Affairs Specialist for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command and as an arms control analyst for private industry.  As a Marshall Scholar, Ms. Bocklage obtained a Masters in War Studies from King’s College London and a Masters in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.  Ms. Bocklage also holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the University of Denver.  Ms. Bocklage has received several honor awards and was the recipient of the 2009 Secretary’s Award for Excellence in International Security Affairs.

Peter Thorin

U.S. Mission to ASEAN

Peter Thorin is the Director of U.S.- ASEAN Connect and the senior economic officer at the U.S. Mission to ASEAN, based in Jakarta.
  U.S.-ASEAN Connect is the recently established framework for U.S. economic engagement with the ten ASEAN member states.  Peter was most recently the senior economic officer in the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs in Washington, DC.  He has had previous economic postings in Australia, Singapore and Thailand.
