About the Speaker

Kelvin Ong

FocusTech Ventures

With over 15 years of experience in precision engineering, Kelvin was the Executive Director of Focus-Tech Holding, leading shareholder of HDD component maker Seksun Group (S$295M exit). He went on to establish FocusTech Ventures, a Singapore based private investment company and technology incubator. Kelvin is also the founding and venture partner of TNB Ventures, an early stage VC firm focused on deep tech. As an active angel investor, he enjoys working with like-minded entrepreneurs, supporting over 30 startups in recent years. Passionate about hardware, Kelvin co-founded OneMaker Group to further develop the regional maker ecosystem. As an entrepreneur, he continues to build through FTV Labs, an engineering firm aimed at modernizing old line industries such as manufacturing and construction with design & technology. Kevin graduated from the National University of Singapore & holds an MBA in Finance & Strategy from the Nanyang Business School.


Paul Meyers

Paul spent the first part of his career as an award-winning television producer in Washington DC and the San Francisco Bay area, creating nationally broadcast science documentaries and producing corporate films and television programs for Apple, IBM, HP, Motorola, Visa and others.

 

Since moving to Asia in the early 1990’s, Paul has been a pioneer in interactive, mobile and digital media. 

  •  Started Vietnam’s first computer animation facility, building it to 80 people from scratch;
  •  Ran multimedia for Asia Business News (now CNBC Asia);
  • Founded/built MTVAsia.com and bringing E!Online, CNET, Sports.com and DoubleClick to Asia;
  • Co-founded and ran business development for early internet company AsiaContent.com (IASIA), raising over US $50 million in venture funding and helping to bring it public on NASDAQ in 2000;
  • Founded and ran Southeast Asia’s largest supplier of mobile games, Acme Mobile, and selling it after 7 years to Mexico’s Binbit;
  • Consulted on mobile, digital and sales strategies for such companies as Xerox, Blackberry, Vodafone, ESPNStar Sports, MEF, and others;
  • Ran business development across Asia for emerging market social network mig.me.


Paul is a start-up mentor working with Founder Institute, Telstra’s muru-D accelerator and Singapore Management University (SMU). He now serves as EIR with SOSVentures’ MOX, the mobile-only accelerator.

 

Paul, who lives in Singapore with his 3 children, is a great cook and lousy golfer.
