The TPP-11 continues to make
progress, and an announcement at the coming APEC meeting in Vietnam in November
is on track.
From informal talks we have held with the governments of Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam, two key issues remain under consideration. First, will the leaders of the TPP-11 be willing to adopt the TPP-12 "as is" (with a change to the entry into force provision) as their agreement? And, if so, what type of transitional period will be required for certain provisions which are not as applicable without US participation?
Great appreciation has been expressed by governments for AmCham Singapore being the first US business association to support the TPP-11.
Now, continued business community support is needed.
At the next meeting, Task Force Chair and AmCham Governor Steve Okun will lead a discussion on what we have learned to date, as well as what steps AmCham can undertake to keep the momentum going forward.
As this meeting will include a review of private discussions as well as to undertake a deliberative process, this meeting is for members only and is closed to the media.
We look forward to seeing you on September 25th.
