AmCham is pleased to announce the International Foundations of Directorship Program in our series of professional workshops.
This program offers a comprehensive view of governance, strategy, risk and finance as they relate to directors. Designed especially for senior executives and directors working across regulatory, cultural and social borders, this program offers a short and sharp introduction to international directorship. The International Foundations of Directorship Program consists of the following components:Module One The Role of the International Director and the International Board
An exploration of the role of the board, directors, chairs and management in organizations which are operating across international borders. Introduction to Board Meetings and International Governance
Discover the composition and structure of effective boards and meeting procedures, taking account of cultural influences that impact board dynamics and how a board exercises its governance responsibilities. About the Trainer
Chris Bennett is the founder of BPA, a South East Asian enterprise improving corporate governance through professional education, research, and advocacy. He researches, writes, speaks and is a frequent commentator on matters relating to the behavioral aspects of governance in the Boardroom.
He serves as Director and Chair of the Audit Committee of LifeTree, a charity in Singapore that seeks to educate, empower and enlighten children with special needs through a program that offers customised care for children and caregivers. Chris is also a Senior Fellow at The Conference Board New York, a consultant to SIAS (Securities Investors Association, Singapore) on matters of corporate governance and Deputy Chair of the Governance Week program committee. He has designed and taught a number of governance programmes for the Iclif Governance Centre (a Bank Negara Malaysia entity).
Chris has served as a Board member of the Centre for Non-Profit Leadership in Singapore, where he also Chaired the Audit Committee and the Nominating Committee. He taught “Aligning business and Human Capital strategies” for the Masters program at UniSIM in Singapore. He has served as Managing Director, Singapore and Malaysia for Watson Wyatt Worldwide, and headed the board and executive consulting team in ASEAN.
Previously, Chris has served as the Country Manager and Board Practice Leader for Towers Perrin, Singapore & Malaysia. He acted as the Regional Director, Asia Pacific in a subsidiary of a major British plc for six years. He held both line executive and fiduciary/directorship responsibilities in many areas/countries around the world including the UK, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He has over 30 years of practical experience with global firms and has lived and worked in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and Asia.
Chris has published research (with Professor Mak Yuen Teen at the National University of Singapore) about corporate governance issues in company groups, corporate governance practices in Asian banks and corporate governance practices in Asian insurance companies. Chris and Professor Mak have also published a book of cartoons on corporate governance, “Directors Daze” - all the profits are donated to charities.
Chris holds an MBA with Distinction from Aston University in the UK. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (UK), a Member of the Singapore Institute of Directors and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
