Representing AmCham members'
interests to governments and working to create a fair and robust
business environment are central to AmCham's mission. We
advocate on behalf of our members in four major ways:
Ø Maintaining a
dialogue with the Singapore Government on implementation of the
U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, protection of intellectual
property rights, and regulatory issues;
Ø Making clear to the United
States Government and U.S.-based business organizations how
domestic legislation affects
America
's ability to do business abroad, e.g., taxation of overseas
Americans;
Ø Writing AmCham position
papers on key issues, which we use to make clear our members'
views during the annual Washington Doorknock meeting with
Administration officials and Members of Congress and whenever we
meet with government officials visiting Singapore;
Ø Organizing business
missions to other countries in the Asia Pacific area to inform
their governments and local business organizations about our
members' regional operations and interests, and to convey our
members' views on issues of concern in these countries, as well as
our views on regional organizations such as ASEAN and APEC.
In all
of these ways, we seek to give our members a strong and unified
voice to influence decisions and make a constructive contribution
to the business climate wherever our members work.
