Supply Chain Management Committee
About the Committee Committee Chairs

Mission:  The Committee provides members with opportunities to share information and network, and advocates issues relevant to the supply chain management sector.  It focuses on the industrial and trade policies in Singapore and the region that have a direct effect on supply chains, including policy changes related to WTO, APEC, and ASEAN (AFTA and AICO) trade and investment commitments.

Industry Brief: Singapore has become an integral partner in global supply chain management by competently leveraging its strategic location between East and West along with its world-class transport logistics, infrastructure, and connectivity.  As a testament to these capabilities, in 2007 the World Bank ranked Singapore as the top logistics hub in the world, ahead of Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong, and China.  Singapore also provides the appropriate regulatory environment and market access for the world’s best supply chaining solutions with twenty-one of the top twenty-five third party logistics companies based in Singapore.

The country’s land and sea infrastructure are particularly vital to global suppliers who seek to access both well-established and emerging markets virtually anywhere in the world.  Singapore’s port is linked to 600 other ports in 123 countries via 200 shipping lanes.  More than 25 million TEUs of containers were moved out of Singapore in 2009, amounting to one-fifth of the world’s total container transshipment throughput.  Additionally, Singapore’s Changi Airport is ranked among Asia’s top five and serves approximately seventy-eight airlines with over 4,000 flights connecting 180 cities in fifty-nine countries.  Singapore’s proximity to other major Asian markets enables access to half the world’s population within a seven-hour flight radius, which again provides suppliers with a distinct strategic edge when operating through Singapore.
