AmCham-SMU Scholarship

AmCham Singapore has a strong community focus. Apart from Corporate Community Day, we also established an AmCham-Singapore Management University scholarship.

The Scholarship is open to local students interested in studying full-time for a Bachelor of Business Management degree at the Singapore Management University.

The Scholarship, valued at $6,000 per year, is tenable for the duration of the scholar's studies. The total worth of a scholarship over four years, is S$24,000.

The Scholarship offers financial support towards covering tuition costs and other study-related expenses.

It is awarded to a student who has demonstrated academic excellence, high co-curricular achievements, excellent leadership qualities and character and a demonstrated interest in business. Financial need is also a factor.

“The AmCham Scholarship enabled me to take advantage of more opportunities than I would otherwise have been able to and thus contributed to making my university experience a more fulfilling and rewarding one. In a truly altruistic spirit, AmCham has asked for nothing in return for this bond-free scholarship other than that their scholars develop into all-rounded leaders and scholars who contribute to society. I sincerely hope that the long line of scholars after me will continue to do AmCham proud.”

– Amy Wan, AmCham-SMU Scholar 2008

"Initially, I was really pleasantly surprised. After the news sank in however, I felt very blessed and fortunate as I knew that I had just gained a plethora of opportunities that are not commonly available to undergraduates like myself.  I am very grateful towards AmCham and its members and donors and I hope to use the money in the wisest way possible as well as to one day do for another what AmCham has done for me."

– Tan Meng Xin, AmCham Scholar 2011

Fund-raising for the AmCham Scholarship
The scholarship began in 2004, when AmCham raised $400,000 from its members and donors to endow the AmCham-SMU Scholarship Fund. The funds were contributed by over 60 different member corporations and individuals, and through the proceeds of a silent auction held at the Ambassador's Gala Dinner in September 2004.  In particular, the scholarship was funded by American Home Assurance, Motorola Pte Ltd, Pacific Architects and Engineers, Neptune Orient Lines and Harrah's Entertainment.

The Fund received three for one matching funds from the Singapore Government, bringing the total of the endowment fund to $1.6 million. The AmCham-SMU Scholarship is an initiative the Chamber is proud of and one that will help educate the future business leaders of Singapore.
