the Speakers
Georgette Tan, Group Head,
Communications, Asia/Pacific, Middle East & Africa, MasterCard
Worldwide
Georgette Tan is Group Head, Communications for the Asia/Pacific,
Middle East
& Africa region and is responsible for the development and
implementation
of regional communications and CSR programs throughout the
Asia/Pacific, Middle
East & Africa region.
In this role, Ms. Tan leads a number of communications initiatives,
including
the creation of MasterCard’s suite of research properties, surveys and
indices.
This research have served as a benchmark for a myriad of industry and
consumer
trends, including financial literacy, consumer confidence, purchasing
priorities and resilience, ethical spending, online shopping, business
development, and financial and regulatory policies.
Ms. Tan has also driven the release of four MasterCard issued books on
industry
knowledge leadership examining the discretionary spending power and
long term
economic impact of various demographics that were authored by Dr. Yuwa
Hedrick-Wong, Global Economic Advisor for MasterCard. In 2005, Ms. Tan
launched
the ‘MasterCard Worldwide Index of Women's Advancement,’ a unique
knowledge
leadership platform that provides key insights measuring the
socio-economic
advancement of women.
She has been a driving force in the creation of a number of related
community
initiatives and scholarship programs to benefit disadvantaged women and
children in the region. Ms. Tan was instrumental in the launch of the
MasterCard Purchase with Purpose™ program, a transactional philanthropy
platform that lets MasterCard cardholders donate a portion of their
purchases
to support charity initiatives through select merchant outlets.Theproceeds
fromMasterCard
Purchase with Purpose™ help benefit the lives of disadvantaged women
and
children by providing them access to education and development programs
to help
them attain a sustainable livelihood.
Ms. Tan currently serves on the international advisory panel for
Maitri, an NGO
in India committed to improving the quality of life of marginalized
women and
underprivileged children. She is also a member of the advisory board
for the
MSc in Communication Management Programme at the Singapore Management
University.
Previously, Ms. Tan was the Director of Communications for CNBC Asia,
and
served as the manager of international publicity services at the Hong
Kong
Trade Development Council in Hong Kong. Prior to that, she led public
relations
for the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board.
She joined MasterCard in 2000 and is based in Singapore.
Penny
Burtt, Head of Public Affairs and External Relations, South-East
Asia , McKinsey & Company
Penny
leads Head of Public Affairs and
External Relations for Southeast Asia for the global management
consultancy,
McKinsey & Company. Prior to joining McKinsey & Company
in 2011, she
was a senior diplomat with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs
and
Trade. She served most recently as Deputy High
Commissioner at the
Australian High Commission in Singapore, and previously represented
Australia
at a senior level as Assistant Secretary for Southeast Asia, in
Malaysia and
Indonesia, and at the United Nations in Geneva. Penny's areas of
expertise
include international relations, government affairs, communication,
policy
analysis and development. Having lived and worked in Asia for
many years,
Penny is passionate about making a contribution to the community. Over
the past
five years, she has worked closely with the Singapore Social Innovation
Park
(SIP), an incubator for social enterprises. In 2011, she chaired the
National
Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) Annual Corporate and Public
Sector
Volunteerism and Philanthropy Awards. An arts enthusiast, she also sits
on the
Board of Singapore's independent arts center, The Substation, and
actively
promotes arts collaboration between Australia and Asia.
As a
career woman and mother, Penny has been an energetic
contributor to women's initiatives in Singapore. She has been a strong
supporter of efforts to enhance women's leadership potential across the
community,
speaking frequently on women's career issues and actively mentoring
younger
women. She is on the Working Committee on BoardAgender, a group which
aims to
provide a forum in Singapore to facilitate a greater awareness and
understanding of the benefits of gender balanced business, and the
advancement
of women into senior leadership roles and the boardroom.
Penny holds degrees in Economics and International Relations
from the University of Sydney and the Australian National University.
Katharine A. Bostick,
Director Compliance & Litigation, Asia Pacific
& Japan Microsoft Katharine Bostick
joined Microsoft in January 2001 and currently serves as
Microsoft’s Director of Compliance &
Litigation in Asia Pacific & Japan, based in
Singapore. She manages the broad range of compliance
& litigation matters across Asia Pacific &
Japan. She partners with key stakeholders ensuring
goververnance, accountability and integrity across the company.
Before taking this
role, Katharine led Microsoft’s efforts across Asia Pacific in
developing and implementing Microsoft’s Security and Internet
Safety policy & education and enforcement initiatives to ensure
a safer and more secure internet. She established
public-private partnerships with governments, law enforcement,
inter-government agencies, non-government agencies, and academics
developing global networks to tackle cybercrime, Intellectual Property
crimes and online facilitated crimes against children. She
also focused on creating cultures of safety and security online to
ensure sustainable environments for innovation and
creativity. She remains passionate about ensuring the
internet is safe & secure for the 21st Century kids.
Katharine
initially joined Microsoft to build a strategic Intellectual Property
enforcement program in Asia Pacific. She established
recognized world-class teams working together to protect Intellectual
Property Rights. She has led a number of key best
practice partnership, policy & enforcement strategies developed
in Asia Pacific resulting in more effective results having global
impact.
Before joining
Microsoft, Katharine served as a federal prosecutor for over 11 years,
serving in 3 offices including: United States Attorney’s
Office in the Southern District of New York; United States Department
of Justice , Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section, and: United States
Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of California (San
Francisco) where she served as Chief of the Organized Crime Drug
Enforcement Task Force for the Pacific Region. During her
career as a prosecutor she prosecuted major international drug
trafficking, money laundering, and major fraud cases.
Katharine received
her law degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a
Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Santa
Clara in California. She is a member of the New York,
California, and Washington D.C bars.
Carolyn Chan is Managing Partner for
the Chief Human Resource Officer
Practice, Asia Pacific.
In addition, she is a Partner in the Consumer Markets Practice and
Co-Chairs the Singapore
Chapter of Women Corporate Directors and Diversity initiatives. Previously, Carolyn was
Director of Recruitment and Training for Wal-Mart’s Global Procurement and Sourcing
organization, based in Shenzhen, China. Prior to that, Carolyn was the Regional Director for
Business Development, Strategic Partnerships and Alliances with the Center for Creative
Leadership’s operations in Asia, based in Singapore. Her career includes 10 years in Executive
Search with another global organization. She started her career in Sales,
Product Development and Merchandising with Esprit De Corp. and
Associated
Merchandising Corp. (now Target) in Boston, New York and Hong Kong. During her career in Asia, she
has worked with many global multinational and local asian corporations on leadership
advisory, program development, executive coaching, talent assessment and
executive search.
Carolyn holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of
Massachusetts and an MBA from the University Of Chicago
Booth School Of Business. She is a member of the Chicago Women in Businesss Alumni
Network. She has completed the Center for Creative Leadership’s Coaching
Certification, and is accredited in several assessment instruments, including: MBTI, FiroB, and
DISC. She currently serves on the General Committee at The American Club in
Singapore and nominating committee for American Chamber of Commerce.
Carolyn is fluent in English, Cantonese and has working knowledge of
Mandarin.

Andrea Mulleris
Chief Executive Asia for Principal Global Investors. Principal
Global Investors is a diversified asset management organization and is
a member of the Principal Financial Group. Prior
to this appointment, she was managing director and head of Fitch
Ratings Asia-Pacific from January 2005 until June 2008. From 1996-2004
Andrea held various positions at UBS including Managing Director and
Head of Asian Corporate Marketing for UBS Global Asset Management,
Managing Director and Head of Singapore for UBS Investment Banking and
Managing Director and Head of Corporate Advisory for UBS inFrance.
She started her career as a lawyer with Shearman & Sterling and
practiced law in bothNew YorkandParis.
Andrea earned a BS in International Relations fromGeorgetownUniversity–SchoolofForeign ServiceinWashington,D.C.and a Masters degree in
European Union studies at the College of Europe inBruges,Belgiumwhere
she studied on a Rotary fellowship. Subsequently, Andrea received her
law degree from Georgetown University Law Centre. Andrea has served on
the AmCham Singapore Board of Governors since 2007 and was on its
Executive Committee since 2008. Andrea
is also Co-Chair of the Chamber’s Women’s Network. She was prior Chair
of the Financial Services Committee.
Cynthia Owens is Senior
Vice President of Organisation Solutions, a boutique leadership and
organisation development consultancy working with some of the world’s
leading growth companies. Cynthia drives the communications
and collaboration practice, helping leaders communicate more
effectively with clients, employees and partners and helping leaders
manage long-distance, virtual and cross cultural teams. Cynthia is one
ofAsia’s most experienced
journalists and media executives. She has worked for The Wall Street
Journal, ABC News, CNBC Asia and Wall Street Journal
Television. From 2001-2006, she was Senior Vice President of
News and Programming for CNBC Asia. During nearly 2 decades in Asia,
Cynthia has been based inTokyo, Hong Kong,BangkokandSingapore.
She launched the first co-produced TV news programming inChina, with Shanghai
Media Group in association withHarvardBusinessSchoolprofessors.
In theU.S., Cynthia covered
the U.S. Congress, Wall Street, the economy and the political
landscape, fromNew York,Washington, D.C. andChicago.
She holds a Master's Degree in Journalism fromNorthwesternUniversityand is
a graduate ofLewis & ClarkCollegein her
home state ofOregon.
