The American Chamber
of Commerce is seeking candidates for the Executive Director
position.
Reporting to the Board of Governors of AmCham, the person will be
responsible for managing the office of AmCham and together with the
Board, committee members and other members for developing and
implementing AmCham’s strategy.
Major responsibilities include:
- Implement the strategy and priorities of AmCham which are
developed in consultation with the Board of Governors
- Grow AmCham’s membership
- Build and maintain relationships with the AmCham membership,
the Board of Governors of AmCham, the U.S. Embassy, the Singapore
Government, and other key stakeholders
- Manage committees and working groups which form AmCham members’
consensus on advocacy positions, to draft recommendations and
position papers
- Organize and participate in meetings with Singapore
representatives to present AmCham positions as appropriate
- Contribute to the education of members of Congress and their
staff on issues of importance to AmCham members
- In conjunction with AmCham’s committees, to organize breakfast
and luncheon speaker events, social events and other events
- Develop and maintain AmCham’s website and newsletters and
review the need for other forms of communication
- Manage AmCham’s relationship with the media and give interviews
as appropriate
- Manage AmCham’s assets and other resources
- Organize business missions in the region
- Lead AmCham’s corporate citizenship initiatives.
Ideal Experience: Graduate degree from a leading university; At
least five years experience managing/leading a team; At least ten
years business experience, some of which in Asia; Experience dealing
with senior businessmen in large companies and senior government
officials.

- Entrepreneurship – A self-starter and independent, the
candidate must demonstrate a track record of successfully running a
business enterprise with limited supervision or support. Respect for
deadlines and the ability to multi-task are key.
- Leadership – The candidate must demonstrate the ability to
influence senior business people and government officials and an
ability to build consensus
- Strategic Thinking – The candidate must be able to steer a
course through conflicting priorities and demonstrate strong
business acumen and a sense of what is achievable
- Relationship building – Credible and convincing, the candidate
must be able to develop sound relationships with people diverse
interest, seniority, backgrounds and cultures.
Other Personal Characteristics:
- Unquestioned integrity and moral character; an individual
others can trust without reservations
- Excellent interpersonal skills, persuasive, can put others at
ease
- The maturity to deal with different nationalities and styles
- Ability to operate at a most senior level, gravitas
- Fluency in English. Strong communication skills (both written
and oral)
- Common sense, pragmatic, good judgment, the ability to take
calculated risks
- Dynamic, persistent
- Commitment to working in Singapore for at least two years; A
sense of humor.
